What lip finish changes on the mouth

Oil, stain, balm and cream do different jobs. Start with wear and feel, then choose the shade.

The same shade can look and behave differently depending on its base. Decide whether you want slip, staying power, softness or coverage before comparing colors.

Oil for shine and easy reapplication

Lip oil gives the most movement and a sheer, wet finish. It is simple to reapply without a mirror, but it will move with drinks and meals.

Stain for color that stays behind

A stain leaves pigment after the initial layer wears down. Apply it to clean lips and give it time to set before adding balm.

Balm and cream for control

Balm softens the lip with light color. Cream offers more coverage and a clearer edge. For both, start with a thin layer and build only where you need it.
